Geology is the science, which studies the earth’s history, composition and structure. Geologists locate groundwater, oil, minerals, and other natural resources by the help of geo-science.They advise construction firms and the Government on construction sites, highway planning and also work in the planning of geological reports, maps and diagrams.

Course description

Geology can be studied after XII (pcm). Admission to university courses is merit based. Candidates with bachelor’s degree are geology/physics or Engineering are eligible for post graduation course in Geology.

Prospectus

There are several specified fields in geology, Such as Mineralogy, petroleum Geology, Marine Geology, geohydrology, paleontology, seismology etc. Most Geologists work or supervise exploration work at a variety of sites, deserts, landforms, ocean floors, riverbeds, mountains etc. They also work in laboratory for conducting research.

Job Avenues

Geologists are recruited for vacancies in the geological Survey of India and the Central ground Water Board through the examination conducted by UPSC. Geologists are recruited with companies such as ONGC, Hindustan Zinc Ltd, Coal India Ltd.
Mines Oil exploration companies etc.
