The National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination provides opportunities for +2 students immediately after passing the qualifying examination. Those who emerge successful are entitled to the glamorous post of officers in army, navy and Air force at a very young age. The UPSC conducts a competitive examination for admission to the army, navy and Air force wings of the NDA and Naval Academy Examination twice a year. The training of the successful candidates commences in January and July. The notification of examination is be given twice every year during April-May, Oct-Nov. And the exam is conducted every April – May and September – October.
Qualification
10+2 Pass
Age – 16 ½ to 19
For army wing - +2 pass with Physics and Maths.

One who qualifies the examination is called for S.S.B interview, which includes group test and psychological test. Those who opt for Air force must undergo a pilot aptitude test. After passing from the N.S.A awards the Degree and selects the candidates in various branches for intensive coaching. Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE)
UPSC conducts combined defence service examination for selecting candidates to the under mentioned courses for training commissioned officers in defence services. CDSE gives entry in Indian Military Academy Dehradun, Naval Academy, Goa, Air force Academy Hyderabad, Officers Training Academy Chennai, after passing the degree examination. CDSE examination is conducted twice a year.

Scheme of examination
The competitive examination comprise of (a) written examination (b) interview (c) intelligence and personality tests. Those qualified are called for interview at the service selection board centre. An interview must be conducted by S.S.B. after those who qualify the CDS examination. The candidates for the NDA and CDSE must posses the prescribed physical standards and should have clear eye vision and medical standards.
