Territorial Army
Territorial Army is also a wing of National Defence. There are several career opportunities in Territorial Army from lower to higher grades in various branches. Recruitment for the Territorial Army is carried out through the existing recruiting organization for the regular army and in addition, by the officers commanding Territorial Army units and unit recruitment parties. The various branches of TA are the following.

Only male candidates can apply. For officers graduation is necessary. Advertisements can be seen in employment news and regional newspapers in June, July. Armed Forces Medical College at Pune
Armed Forces medical college at Pune is a prestigious medical college run by the Armed Forces for training medical graduates. After successful completion of the course one can enter as a commissioned officer in Armed Forces medical services. Admission is based on a common entrance test. Minimum qualification for applying is first class in +2 examinations with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Separate 50% mark for English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in first chance. B.Sc graduates with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology also can apply. (Age: 17-22 for plus two and 24 for B.Sc graduate). The admission is based on an entrance test which is notified in December, January and exam will be conducted in May. In Kerala the examination centre is Kochi. The entrance test consists of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Intelligence, English and Reasoning. The total seat for the course is 130. 25 seats are reserved for girls. 10 seats are reserved for SC, ST candidates those who come within the first 500 in the final combined merit list of Boys and Girls. Based on the performance on the written examination selected candidates are called for interview in the month of June/July. The final selection is based on a medical fitness list. Accommodation and food are free.

Armed Forces Nursing Services
Armed Forces Nursing course offers excellent nursing course and excellent career opportunity in defence service in Armed Forces Nursing Service. Duration of the course is 4 years. Qualification of the course is 45% in +2 science stream. The unmarried females between 17 and 24 can apply. Legally divorcees and widows having no children are considered. The admission is based on a common entrance test and interview and whoever selected must execute a bond, showing consent to work at least 5 years. During the time of training candidates get free accomodation, food, uniform and stipend. Those who qualify the written examination in the month of April or may. Candidates who qualify in the interview have to take the medical examination in Kerala. The examination centre is at Trivandrum. GNM, Mumbai School of Nursing, I.N.H.S., Aswini, Colaba, Mumbai.
Military Schools
Military schools and sainik schools are considered as the gate way for the post of officers in army, navy and Air Force. Admission for the military school is based on a common entrance test for class VI. The entrance test consists of written examination in intelligence, arithmetic and general knowledge. Final selection is made from common merit list prepared for all the military schools and the eligible are required to undergo a medical test. Only boys are eligible for admission.

Sainik Schools
There are 19 sainik schools in our country. The Sainik School imparts public school education for preparing boys academically, physically and psychologically for the defence service and other walks of life. Admission is based on a common entrance examination held at various centers all over the country. The examination is in February and notifications are published in various newspapers.
Qualification:
Pass in 5th Std. (Age: 10-11)
The written test consists of 4 papers
Paper – I Numerical aptitude test – 50 marks
Paper – II Mathematical Knowledge – 100 marks
Paper – III Languages comprehension test – 100 marks
Paper- IV Intelligence test – 100 marks
Those who qualify the written test must pass medical fitness test and interviews.

Military Colleges
Rashtriya Indian Military College
RIMC aims to train suitable candidates for admission to NDA and to make then fit for the honour of receiving a commission in the armed forces. The college is managed by the union ministry of defence and is operated through the Directorate of Military training, Army HQ. The college is maintained and funded by the government of India. This institution serves as a feeder institution to the NDA Khadakvasala, Pune.
Eligibility – Not less than 12 years of age and not attained the age of 13 and 5th Pass.
Admission is based on a common entrance test held at selected centers in India. Test consists of English, Arithmetic, G.K., and Viva-voce. Candidates who pass the qualifying examination are required to undergo a medical examination. The details regarding the admission will be published in all leading dailies and employment news.

Raigad Military College
Raigad Military College, Achloli is similar to the Sainik Schools regarding admission syllabus and examination. Here students of the age 10,11,12,13 are admitted to sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth standards respectively. Examinations are conducted during March/April every year.

Bhonsala Military College
Bhonsala Military College, Nasik. This college provides admission to degree courses for the students who have completed their higher secondary exam successfully. Those who come out successfully are given preference for the Combined Defence Service Examination.
