Prospects
The jobs in which chemical scientists are involved are related to industries manufacturing diverse products. It also includes the production of chemicals and allied products.
Job avenues
A chemist works in research and development, management, Marketing, production, teaching and in many other applied fields. Industrial growth has created a great demand for trained chemist and this trend is expected to continue. Chemical scientists interested in environment have enough opportunities in this field. The electronic, paper pulp, metal, cement and aerospace industries also offer job opportunities. Agricultural chemists research for better and improved crop cultivation developing fertilizers and agricultural chemicals. Other fields offering opportunities are molecular biology, biotechnology and polymer chemistry, textiles, petroleum, rubber, plastics, agricultural products, paper, pharmaceuticals food, fertilizers and paints. The army service corps recruits women who have postgraduate degree in organic chemistry/Biochemistry as food scientist. Graduates in chemistry are enrolled for the army ordinance corps.

Oceanography
The oceans of world cover 71% of the area and are reservoirs of petroleum, minerals, and seafood. The professional studying various aspects relating to the ocean is known as oceanography. An oceanographer studies the physical, chemical, Biological and scientific aspects of the ocean. Oceanography has following specializations.
- Physical Oceanography:- it is the study of physical aspects of oceans such as temperature, salinity, ocean circulation patterns and the relationship between the sea and the atmosphere
- Chemical Oceanography:- Investigates chemical composition of the water and chemical processes involved therein
- Biological Oceanography:- Deals with the study of topography features of bottom of the sea and mineral composition of sediments and deposits
- Geological Oceanography
Personality traits
An oceanographer must be in good health must enjoy out of doors work and must be well adjusted to tolerate crowded conditions under uncomfortable and hazardous circumstances.
