Astronomy
– the oldest recorded science – is the study of extra terrestrial systems. It is considered as a sub field of Physics. Astronomers use the principles of Physics and mathematics to learn about the fundamental nature of the universe, including the Sun, Moon, Planets, Stars and galaxies. They also apply their knowledge to problems in navigation and space flight.

Career in Astronomy

Different fields in Astronomy are Astrophysics, celestial Mechanics and Cosmology. Astrophysics is the study of physical nature of stars, galaxies and the universe. Celestial Machines deals with the calculation of the orbits of celestial bodies, their gravitational attractions and also orbits of artificial satellites and space probes. It is based on the law of motion and gravity laid down by Newton. Cosmology deals with structure and evolution of the universe as an ordered whole.

The route to become an astronomer cannot be a short one, when you want to chart a career path to Astronomy, the starting point should be first the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics group of subjects at plus two levels. A doctoral degree is the usual educational requirement to become an astronomer.

Job Avenues

Astronomers find work in the defense and Space Research Organizations of the Government, with electrical and electronic equipment manufacturers, search and Navigation equipment manufacturers and so on. An Astronomer can work in a planetarium or science park.
